A United States Air Force (USAF) T-38C Talon trainer jet experiencing an “in-flight emergency” crashed near Crawford in Mississippi, United States, on November 7, 2022.
The aircraft belonged to the 14th Flying Training Wing housed at Columbus Air Force Base.
The single pilot that was flying the aircraft managed to eject safely and was transported to a local hospital. The trainer was damaged beyond repair. No other damage nor injuries were reported.
“We continuously train our pilots to react appropriately for all emergency situations such as the incident that occurred today,” Colonel Jeremy Bergin, 14th Flying Training Wing Vice Commander said.
An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the incident
The T-38 Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude, supersonic jet trainer developed by Northrop during the Cold War era and used to this day in a variety of roles by the USAF and other allied powers.
Over the next few years, the USAF will take delivery of 351 T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer jets developed by Boeing and Saab to replace the current fleet of T-38 aircraft progressively.
